I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with nearly twenty years of experience counselling thousands of individuals, couples and families to find increased fulfillment, improve communication, and develop better ways of coping with the stressors of life.
In pursuit of my education; I travelled to many cities to earn degrees at McGill University in Montreal with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours. Then I obtained a Master of Arts (Honours) from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, and a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology (Honours) from the University of Toronto.
I have undergone specialized training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, Narrative Psychology, Existential theory, Rogerian Therapy and Family Systems Therapy.
I have conducted presentations on generational family dynamics, mindfulness based stress reduction, positive parenting, non-directive art and writing therapy, anxiety/low mood reduction and coping tools, as well as life transitions. I have served as a Clinical Director of a Relationship website as well as a Practicum Supervisor of counselling interns from University of British Columbia, Adler, City University, and Simon Fraser University.
My early clinical experience was at George Brown College in the Redirection Through Education Program assisting individuals with learning coping tools to manage anxiety/low mood and depression. I then worked at Touchstone Family Association providing individual, couple and family counselling as well as play and non-directive art therapy. I also have over a decade of experience at a community agency as a Youth & Family Therapist in which I have counselled individuals on relationship building and reconnection. I have previously held roles of Team Leader, Acting Supervisor and Practicum Supervisor.
METHODS & SPECIALIZATION
My expertise is a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Rogerian Client Centred, Psychodynamic, Existential, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. My counselling approach reflects these specializations.
My counselling philosophy is collaborative, non-judgmental, and empowering. I will work with you to increase your awareness of unhelpful thought or behaviour patterns that may be holding you back. We will identify your unique strengths and provide concrete strategies to achieve your goals. I will help you find increased ways of coping with challenges, enhancing communication, learning tools for deescalation and problem solving, as well as strengthening your relationships.
My clients are high functioning and competent yet struggling with current challenges, anxiety or low mood, relationship challenges or painful childhood issues. It has been remarkable to witness my clients’ positive changes as they work towards increased wellbeing and find coping tools to reduce suffering and lead happier lives.
I specialize in working with individuals with anxiety/low mood to learn concrete strategies to find healthy ways of coping through mindfulness based stress reduction and cognitive behavioural therapy. I also specialize on self-esteem building, and self-worth. Clients are assisted in working through life transitions in career and expressing feelings following grief/loss. I also have extensive experience helping clients with eating disorders find healthy ways of coping and learning new strategies. In my work with couples and families, we rebuild and strengthen relationships, overcome conflict, and find healthy ways of communicating, as well as processing relationship tension, and divorce coaching.
